The current lead time for a Metal Storm CNC is roughly 8 - 10 Weeks!
Presenting the Metal Storm CNC, a very serious Australian made CNC router designed for extreme hobby and commercial applications.
This listing is for an upgraded V2 Metal Storm that features an upgraded industrial control box, larger power supply and high performance drivers.
It features heavy duty 25mm profile rails on all axes, 20mm precision ballscrews on X and Y axes and a 16mm ballscrew on the Z axis.
The frame is constructed from heavy duty 40 series 6063 grade aluminium extrusions with all plates precision machined from 20mm 6061 aluminium billet. It also comes with fully supported legs so it can stand alone without the need for a table to mount the machine!
The Metal Storm comes fitted with a 2.2kw Air-cooled industrial spindle with ER20 collet that is powered by a premium Invertek IP66 2.2kw VFD. Each machine also comes fitted with one of our premium Australian Made Nighthawk controllers.
To keep things simple, the entire machine is plug and play and only requires a single phase 15A socket to run everything!
NOTE: You must have a 15A outlet installed to plug the Metal Storm in!
The Metal Storm has a liberal Z axis clearance of 165mm with the ability to fully work materials ~100mm in thickness.
The Metal storm isn't just for machining alloys, it can make very light work of:
- Timbers (hard or soft)
- Plywoods
- Plastics
- Foams
- Alloys (Aluminium and Brass)
- Carbon fibre, PCB, Fibreglass
Please note: The Metal Storm is not suitable for machining steels or stainless steels.
Due to the large metal frame used on the Metal Storm, We do not recommend using the inductive XYZ probe as it can cause probing issues.
The Metal Storm is not designed to support a Laser, however if you do chose to add one we do not currently have a suitable bracket to mount the laser to the machine so you will need to design and make something to suit.
Key features of the Metal Storm
- Heavy duty machine design
- Precision ballscrews on all axes
- Heavy duty 25mm precision profile rails on all axes
- Powered by our premium Australian made Nighthawk controller
- Full standalone machine frame (No table needed!)
- Industrial IP65 inductive limit switches on all axes
- Dual axis homing installed by default, no need to re-square your gantry manually
- Powerful 2.2kw spindle with ER20 collet set with premium 2.2kw IP66 Invertek VFD
- Comes fitted with swarf catching sides for containing your material chips
- Comes with a rubbish sweep hole at rear, simply place a bin underneath it for easy clean up
What's included with the Metal Storm?
- Collet set for the spindle
- Cutters to get you started for timbers, plastics and alloys
- Extra 8mm 1 flute upcut for alloys endmill for surfacing your alloy bed **Alloy bed only**
Should you choose the "No bed" or 16mm alloy bed option?
We can supply a fitted 16mm alloy bed that has holes drilled and tapped every 100mm for easy clamping. If you are planning on doing high precision alloy or plastic work then the alloy bed option is ideal. If you are mostly doing work with timbers or don't need extreme precision on your jobs then choose the "none" option for the bed which will allow you to fit your own bed of your choice. MDF is quite common a good choice for most materials.
**PLEASE NOTE: The Metal storm is a very precise CNC machine and as such once receiving your machine the bed must be surfaced to be truly perpendicular to your cutting tool.
If choosing the alloy bed option we supply an 8mm 1F up cut for aluminium cutter to complete this process.
We do not do this for you beforehand because as soon as a machine of this precision is transported or moved the tram may change slightly.**

Software Options
We recommend using our CNC3D Commander software to control your machine, it has a variety of fun features and supports all of the extended features of the Nighthawk such as remote uploading and execution of jobs.
It is completely FREE and can be downloaded HERE
Spindle Milling/Routing
For 3 axis CNC milling there are several free and paid software packages you can use to get your SharpCNC running. If you are new to CNCs that's OK, we all need to start somewhere.
To make things easy and get you setup quickly, we recommend using Easel CNC, Easel is a web based design program that makes getting started extremely simple.
You can start using Easel after creating an account by clicking HERE
For more advanced software we recommend using Carveco. Carveco gives you the freedom to design and manufacture high-quality 2D or 3D products. Get started with Carveco by clicking HERE and using code: CNC3D at checkout for 5% off.
Laser Engraving
We recommend using our CNC3D Commander softwares Creation Tools for general laser engraving. It can be found by clicking on the "Create" button at the top of Commander.
For more advanced laser engravers or design we recommend looking into Lightburn.
