CNC3D Commander build 360
Released 20 October 2026. Version 1.1 build 360 of CNC3D Commander and the CNC3D Design Suite: 10 new features, 19 bug fixes. Download the latest build (free, Windows).
New features
Design Suite: a new Machine menu lists every CNC3D machine (work area, speeds, collet size) plus your own, and picking one offers to size the canvas to its work area.
Each machine remembers the Job type you last used with it, and exports are checked against its limits (stock size, cutter shank, feed rates and depth) before the G-code is written.
Tool Library: every cutter now has a Shank size, filled in for the whole CNC3D TurboCut range, so the machine check knows what fits your collet.
The AI Assistant respects the picked machine when it chooses cutters and feeds.
Generate 3D model: reliefs pick up finer surface detail from the picture, open at a 6 mm depth, and typed numbers in the relief editor refresh the preview as you type.
Every CNC3D program and component is now digitally signed with the CNC3D Pty Ltd certificate for smoother antivirus and SmartScreen checks.
Commander: the New machine wizard now works on FluidNC controllers and comes back after Reset Machine Wizard on FluidNC and other ESP32 boards, not only on NightHawk; Help > Support Topics links the article on bringing it back.
Commander: the New machine wizard no longer restarts your controller partway through setup on any controller type; the few FluidNC settings that only change at start-up are saved and take effect the next time the controller is powered on, and the wizard tells you so.
Design Suite: a new shape picks up the feed rate and spindle speed of the shape you drew before it.
Design Suite: laser, plasma and knife jobs honour the Stock menu Z zero (Machine Bed) the same way router jobs do.
Bug fixes
Design Suite: a shallow bend between two straight edges is no longer rounded into an arc in the exported G-code and the Cutting View.
Commander: wizard steps that wait on the controller (travel capture, factory profile) no longer stall while the setup prompt is open.
Commander: loading a factory machine profile no longer stops at the first setting your controller does not support; everything it accepts is applied and you get a list of what was skipped.
Commander: the wizard direction test only asks whether the axis moved the right way after the move has actually happened, explains a refused move, and no longer leaves the controller in relative (G91) mode.
Commander: the machine limits step saves the right travel on machines that home to the back right corner, so soft limits no longer trip after the wizard.
Commander: if homing fails during setup the wizard stops and points you at the limit switch wiring instead of waiting forever, and connecting to a controller with no extended settings no longer stops partway through.
Commander: after loading a factory profile in the New machine wizard, the firmware update offer and the SD job sync window no longer pop up a second time on top of the wizard.
Design Suite: tabs now appear on every profile cut that goes through the stock, sit exactly where you drew them, and are never drilled through by the plunge or the ramp.
Design Suite: identical shapes with the same toolpath cut identically, and shapes stacked on top of each other cut in the order you see them on screen.
Design Suite: the number of passes is exact (6 mm at 0.6 mm per pass is ten passes, not eleven) and the last pass lands on the total depth.
Design Suite: the cutter lifts to Safe Z before every tool change, and the Safe Z in your post-processor header and footer respects the Machine Bed Z zero.
Design Suite: pocket cut offsets, outside cuts on small pins, inside cuts on small holes, ball-nose profiles, rotated groups and open lines all cut where the drawing shows them.
Design Suite: a V-carve on top of a pocket of the same depth no longer disappears, and V-bit walls are no longer widened.
Design Suite: numbers typed into the toolpath panel and tabs dragged on the canvas are kept when you export or save without pressing Enter.
Design Suite: small point and curve-handle adjustments can always be undone and redone, including straight after a Sculpt.
Laser, plasma and knife: shapes inside a rotated group cut where they are drawn, default lead-ins and lead-outs sit in the waste instead of on the part, and the knife lifts between the contours of a shape.
Laser: open paths cut once per pass with no stroke back across the opening, straight lines and polylines can be profile cut, and fibre multi-pass heights count from the cut height.
Knife: rectangles and ellipses drawn with the shape tools are now cut, and the lead-out follows the handle you dragged.
Laser pictures: the raster starts from the stock start point, no longer drops a pixel per row, and the profile kerf is half the beam width.
